Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct applies to members of Council and local boards, including the Board of Management for any Business Improvement Area, the Committee of Adjustment, Fence Viewers and Livestock Valuers.

The code provides conduct guidelines including, but not limited to the following matters:

  • gifts or benefits
  • confidential information
  • use of city property, services and other resources
  • expenses
  • improper use of influence
  • respect for decision making process

Complaint Protocol

The full Complaint Protocol is included as part of the Code of Conduct.

Allegations of Code of Conduct contravention

Complaints must be submitted to the Integrity Commissioner in writing within 60 days of the alleged contravention and include the following:

  • Signature of the complainant and date submitted
  • An explanation as to why the issue raised is a contravention of the Code of Conduct
  • Evidence to support the allegation
  • Names of any witness who can support the allegation

Allegations of contravention regarding the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act

Applications must be submitted to the Integrity Commissioner in writing within six weeks of the alleged contravention becoming known and include the following:

  • Signature of the applicant and date submitted
  • An explanation as to why the issue raised is a contravention of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act
  • Evidence to support the allegation
  • Names of any witness who can support the allegation
  • A statutory declaration attesting to the fact that the applicant became aware of the alleged contravention not more than six weeks before the application.
