About Mayor Brian Bigger

About Mayor Brian Bigger

Brian Bigger was born in Sudbury. Before being sworn in as Mayor for the City of Greater Sudbury in December of 2014, he served as the City’s first Auditor General.

No stranger to the values of openness, transparency and accountability, the Auditor General’s Office of Greater Sudbury, under Brian Bigger’s leadership, was awarded the distinction of international recognition from the Association of Local Government Auditors for an audit related to Sudbury’s Road Construction projects.

Prior to serving in that role, he also held roles at Sears Canada Inc. and with the Regional Municipality of Halton. A graduate of St. Charles College, Brian earned a diploma in Marketing from Cambrian College and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

An athlete in his youth Brian Bigger won a gold medal in the 1974 Ontario Summer Games for Sudbury as a member of the Sudbury Cycling Club. In more recent years, Brian has also run two full marathons and numerous half marathons.

Brian Bigger is no stranger to arts and culture. In his spare time he enjoys painting in water colour and listening to music.

Lori Bigger, his wife of 34 years, is also Sudbury born. The couple enjoys all the facets of living in Sudbury. They have two children and are proud grandparents of two little boys.

Brian Bigger believes that Sudbury is at a crossroads. It is well-positioned for future growth, it is the center of Northern Ontario, an economic hub and the nucleus of all northern communities. Sudbury; the centre of commerce, education, health care, the arts and culture and the best place to live in Ontario.

He is pleased to get to work with council and make this vision a reality for the people of Greater Sudbury.
